PestPrep ("we," "us," or "our") is a free online study tool for the US Pesticide Applicator Certification exam. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and your rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and other applicable laws.

Categories of Personal Information Collected

We collect the following categories of personal information, all stored locally on your device using your browser's localStorage:

• Identifiers: First name (optional, user-provided for personalization)
• Contact Information: Email address (optional, user-provided)
• Education/Study Data: Quiz scores, topic progress, spaced repetition data, study streak counts, XP points, quiz history, bookmarks, and study calendar data
• Preferences: Theme preference (light/dark), sound settings, calm mode setting

All data listed above is stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage. We do not transmit, store, or process this data on any server.

Purposes of Data Collection

• Personalization: Greeting you by name and tracking your individual study progress
• Study optimization: Powering spaced repetition algorithms to resurface questions you need to review
• Progress tracking: Showing your accuracy, streaks, XP, and readiness score
• User experience: Remembering your theme, sound, and display preferences

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties. Since all personal data is stored locally on your device, we have no access to it and cannot sell or share it. There are no data brokers, advertisers, or third-party partners who receive your data from us.

Third-Party Services

• Google Analytics 4: We may use GA4 to collect anonymous usage statistics (page views, session duration). This data is aggregated and cannot identify you personally. You can opt out by using a browser ad-blocker or the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
• Google Fonts: We load the Inter font from Google Fonts, which may log your IP address per Google's privacy policy.
• Vercel: Our site is hosted on Vercel. Vercel may collect server access logs (IP addresses, timestamps) as part of standard web hosting.

Your Rights Under CCPA

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights:

• Right to Know: You may request the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you. Since all data is in your browser's localStorage, you can inspect it directly via your browser's developer tools.
• Right to Delete: You may request deletion of your personal information. Visit the Progress page and click "Delete My Data" to instantly clear all locally stored data.
• Right to Opt-Out of Sale: We do not sell your personal information. No opt-out is necessary.
• Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights. The site is free and fully functional regardless.

Cookies and Tracking

PestPrep does not use cookies for tracking. We use browser localStorage to save your study progress and preferences. localStorage data is never sent to our servers and remains on your device only. Google Analytics may set its own cookies; see the Third-Party Services section above.

Data Retention

Your data is retained in your browser's localStorage until you delete it. You can delete all data at any time by visiting the Progress page and clicking "Delete My Data," or by clearing your browser's site data.

Children's Privacy

PestPrep is intended for adult professionals seeking pesticide applicator certification. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision.
